The Artist as Witness

Some time ago, an insightful young woman noted that the problems of the world are all connected. Think about it... poverty promotes ignorance, which leads to fear and intolerance, leading to conflicts big and small. Lack of equal rights for women perpetuates ignorance, and stagnant economies, and promotes unsustainable population growth. From all these factors the environment suffers, reducing crop yields and access to clean water, promoting disease and keeping people locked in a vicious cycle of poverty and ignorance. The good news is that since everything is connected, one need only improve one part of the problem to positively affect everything else. What you do really does matter.
